BHNHS HISTORY
On April 22, 1995,Batasan Hills National High School (BHNHS) was established as a newly legislated Public Secondary School through a House Bill sponsored by former Congressman Dante V. Liban which was enacted into law and was known as R.A. No. 7987.
Three years later, the establishment and institutionalization of Batasan Hills National High School have been realized when 20 teachers and 582 students from Bagong Silangan High School were transferred to the three-storey, 12 classroom building of the school under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Romulo B. Rocena who got promoted to Principal I after getting the item of Dr. Teofilo Farin, the first principal of BHNHS who died in 1998.
Dr. Rocena effectively and excellently managed the school for 6 years. Dr. Rocena's steady leadership institutionalized the miraculous and dramatic changes both in physical facilities and the academic achievements of the school. In line with this, he prioritized the construction of additional buildings, school fence, covered court, computer laboratory and school offices. Pieces of equipment, scientific apparatuses and installation of FAX machine and telephone lines were acquired. Professional and in-service training were conducted to develop the school staff.
School based computer training were likewise initiated to cope up with the advancement of information technology.
The S.Y. 2006-2007 marked the tremendous increase in the school population to 9,678 students.
Dr. Rocena's brainchild, the Home Study Program is an alternative learning package and intervention program catering to out of school youth.
Dr. Rocena's successor, Dr. Rowena A. Cacanindin, was noted for her excellent managerial style and sound decision making wherein she was able to acquire a world-class AVR, construction of classrooms and additional computers to name a few.
The administration of Dr. Gil T. Magbanua is noted with continuing the proud tradition of producing exemplary and outstanding learners as per the school's Mission and Vision. To accomplish this, he introduced the Special Programs, namely: Science and Technology Education (STE), ESEP, Special Program in the Arts (SPA) and Strengthened Technical-Vocational Education Program (STVEP).
In 2012, Dr. Diego M. Amid, Principal IV, managed the school-leading more than 400 school personnel and 12,433 learners.
During Dr. Amid's administration, the National Achievement Test (NAT) scores of Batasan Hills students averaged from 44.82 to 49.6%.
In 2013, the Department of Education Central office chose Batasan Hills National High School among other schools in Quezon City to pilot Continuous Improvement Program in the Philippines. Through this program and under Dr. Amid's helm, he was able to improve the attendance of learners in the school.
In the era of the so-called Generation-Z, Dr. Proceso T. Lera, Principal IV, continues to uphold the proud tradition of producing learners adhering to the culture of discipline, courtesy and excellence which he implemented.
Moreover, under Dr. Lera's stewardship, the beautification program of the school is consistently implemented through the refurbishing of the stage, repainting of buildings, classrooms and improving the facilities of the Junior and Senior High School. To ensure the lasting effects of this effort, Dr. Lera urged the students to take part by practicing the four cultures such as discipline, courtesy, cleanliness and excellence of which the importance of service-oriented approach among learners and stakeholders is emphasized.
Aside from these, Dr. Lera is also credited for the creation of School-Based Management Repository Ar- ea and the production of students' handbook. He also focused on the enhancement of facilities in the reading center wherein book shelves and cabinets were constructed to contribute in developing a culture of reading in the school. He also initiated the installation of huge drainage system to ensure a flood - free school community.
Likewise, rehabilitation of comfort rooms for students and teachers was prioritized during his first three- month administration.
